Christian has been Chief Investment Officer at HDI Global SE in Hannover since 2025, where he leads the insurer’s global investment, currency, and collateral management activities.

Prior to this, he worked at HSBC in London, overseeing investment portfolios for the Group’s European and Latin American insurance operations. He also served as Chief Investment Officer and Member of the Executive Committee of HSBC China Life Insurance in Shanghai. Earlier in his career, he held first-line investment and second-line risk oversight roles within the AXA Group in Hong Kong, Paris, and Cologne.

In academia, he published award-winning research on the hedge fund industry and lectured in Germany and the Middle East. He holds a PhD in Finance from RWTH Aachen University and is a CFA charterholder and certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM). In 2011, he was the first recipient of the BAI Science Award in the Doctoral Thesis category.
